Delivering Sydney International Airport’s first body scanners was a high risk operation which required highly technical staging and commissioning within a fully operating environment.
EDT tackled this project with the knowledge that success lay in seamless program management, sub-contractor coordination and stakeholder engagement.
The first body scanners to be introduced at Sydney International Airport required exceptional stakeholder engagement with Airport Security operations, Australian Federal Police, Australian Customs, Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service and the Airlines.
In addition to the supply and installation of body scanners to the Pier B transfer area, their inclusion required the reconfiguration of the surrounding concourse area, the de-commissioning and removal of travelators, demolition of an existing toilet block over a live substation and all associated services, testing and commissioning. Works were completed during curfew hours in three stages over 20 weeks to maintain operational capability for the Airport.
